Manchester City have named their squad for the knockout rounds of the Champions League following the January transfer window

Manchester City have added Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi to their squad for the Champions League knockout phases but have been unable to include summer signing Sverre Nypan. Oscar Bobb and Stefan Ortega have been removed following their moves to Fulham and Nottingham Forest respectively.
Bobb's departure means that City have just two players that count as homegrown in their squad out of a possible four, meaning that they can only have a maximum squad of 23. Semenyo and Guehi both qualify as association-trained players, but City already have three of those in Nathan Ake, John Stones and Marcus Bettinelli so there is only one spot available.
That means that the other player has been included as one of City's 17 players that they are allowed on List A. Ortega was on this list, but his removal has enabled both January signings to be included and they will be available from the round of 16.

Nypan will not, however, following his return to the club. The £12.5m signing is back at the Etihad after struggling to get game time on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship and was immediately named on the bench for the Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.
However, with spots for non-homegrown players tight the club has obviously prioritised naming Guehi and Semenyo in the squad. Unlike in the Premier League, Nypan cannot qualify as an Under-21 either as UEFA rules say that those players - such as Max Alleyne or Nico O'Reilly - must have been registered with the club for at least three years.
City will only find out who they are playing next after the play-off round at the end of February. The Blues finished eighth in the original 36-team table and will be drawn against one of the two winners out of the Benfica-Real Madrid and Inter-Bodo matches.
