Manchester City is set to complete the signing of Antoine Semenyo after agreeing a deal with Bournemouth, without activating his release clause.

Liverpool has been heavily linked with the 26-year-old in recent months and former Reds midfielder Jamie Redknapp went as far as suggesting he could still join the Reds on Wednesday, predicting a dramatic 'twist',

But City has been in pole position for the Ghana international and now looks set to complete the deal in the coming days. Semenyo signed off as a Bournemouth player with a stunning last-minute strike to seal all three points against Tottenham on Wednesday.

Semenyo has a $87 million (£65 million) release clause at Bournemouth but The Athletic reports that it has not been activated, with the two club's agreeing on a new deal structure.

It is claimed that City will pay $84M (£62.5m) with a further $2M (£1.5m) in add ons. Bournemouth will also receive 10 percent of the profit on future transfers.

The structure of the deal is likely to appeal to both clubs with City paying the fee across two tears, while Bournemouth will receive more than the fixed release clause amount.

That was worth around $81M (£60m) to the Cherries due to 'solidarity commitments, a Premier League levy and VAT' to Semenyo.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola discussed Semenyo's exit after the win over Tottenham, stating: "It's not easy to do what he has done. Most players, a lot of players would have acted differently. He has never found excuses, he was ready to give whatever we needed.

"We pushed a lot to keep him until the last second here and I think it is fair that he leaves with the feeling he has had at the end, with the sub, with the reception of the supporters.
