Manchester City are expected to complete the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain once Ederson's move to Fenerbahce is completed. The double move on deadline day will give Pep Guardiola a new No.1 as he says goodbye to one who has set the standard for the last eight years.

Ederson arrived as a relatively unknown quantity in 2017, signed to replace Claudio Bravo after his attempt to move on from Joe Hart had gone horribly wrong. He changed the way that goalkeepers are seen in the Premier League, and leaves with a number of individual honours on top of all the team trophies.

The Brazilian nearly left last summer but was convinced to stay by Guardiola, although he would go on to briefly lose his place in the team to Stefan Ortega as City's standards dropped. He pledged to stay at the Etihad while at the Club World Cup, but is now set to join Fenerbahce after a messy three weeks where transfer interest from Galatasaray saw James Trafford picked in goal to start the season instead.

City will replace Ederson with Donnarumma, who said his goodbyes at PSG last week after being told he was no longer needed. The Blues need to finalise details with club and player but that is not expected to be an issue; they will then be able to name the new keeper in their Champions League squad, which has to be submitted at the end of the transfer window.

Donnarumma's arrival will push City's spending past the £170m mark for this summer, having spent £175m in the January window. Even if it is not as much as some of their rivals, that will increase the expectations on the club to improve on their disappointing effort last season.

City also have more work to do on deadline day, with the futures of Stefan Ortega, Manu Akanji and Ilkay Gundogan all hanging in the air. Tottenham are in for Akanji and the other two have not featured at all in the first few games of the season.

The club will also want to shift more players, including Issa Kabore and Kalvin Phillips, even if they are just on loan. There is an expectation that more academy talent will leave too, most likely on loan.
