Man City team vs Liverpool confirmed as Rodri decision made amid 3 changes

3 hours ago 2

Rodri has been left out of Manchester City’s squad for today’s crucial game against Liverpool, with the midfielder deemed not fit enough to face the defending champions.

Arne Slot’s side is at the Etihad Stadium today as it looks to make up some ground on current Premier League leader Arsenal. Mikel Arteta’s side opened the door for both the Reds and City after slipping up at Sunderland on Saturday.

A win for Liverpool would take it back to within five points of the Gunners, while Pep Guardiola’s side could move to within four four points in what is set to be an intriguing encounter.

City though was dealt a blow ahead of the game when Rodri had to be left out of the squad against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League in midweek.

The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner had only returned from injury a few days previously against Bournemouth, but it seems the midfielder has not fully recovered, with Guardiola again leaving him out of his squad to face Liverpool today.

"We'll see tomorrow but I think we won't take the risk with the international break," Guardiola said in his press conference on Friday about Rodri.

"We have to wait for the time when he feels strong and fit and can sustain actions in the game that are so demanding.

"We have to make that step. We are still in November, the best part of the season is ahead of us and we need him.

City makes three changes in total following the midweek win over Dortmund, with Bernardo Silva returning to the side in place of Savinho.

Ruben Dias also returns as he replaces John Stones in the heart of the defense, while Rayan Cherki replaces Tijjani Reijnders. Erling Haaland once again spearheads the hosts’ attack and provides Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate with a huge threat.

Haaland has 18 goals from 14 appearances so far this season, including 13 goals in 10 Premier League appearances. The Norwegian international sits seven ahead of his nearest challenger for the Golden Boot, and nine ahead of Liverpool’s top scorer Mohamed Salah.

Manchester City confirmed team vs Liverpool: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Gvardiol, O'Reilly, Gonzalez, Bernardo, Cherki, Doku, Foden, Haaland.

Subs: Trafford, Reijnders, Stone, Ake, Marmoush, Ait-Nouri, Savinho, Bobb, Lewis.
