Man City to avoid nightmare Savinho Tottenham transfer scenario after Pep Guardiola claim

7 hours ago 1

Entertainment is always guaranteed whenever Tottenham take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The sides have played out some classics in recent seasons, with Spurs' 4-0 win over Pep Guardiola's side last November a standout result.

The teams meet again this weekend in a 12:30pm kick-off in Manchester. Both Tottenham and Manchester City will no doubt find themselves in the headlines leading up to the game due to the possibility of Savinho making the move to north London.

Joining City 12 months ago from French side Troyes in a £30.8million deal, the 21-year-old ended his first year at the club with three goals and 13 assists to his name from 48 appearances. It may prove to be his only full season as a City player if a move to Tottenham does come to fruition before the transfer window draws to a close.

Tottenham want to add Savinho to their ranks, with Frank believing the Brazilian can light up his attack. Guardiola was quizzed about a potential exit for his player when speaking to the media last Friday ahead of their Premier League opener against Wolves.

"Whether it's Tottenham in that case or any other club, a player should call the club. I am only concerned right now that Savinho will be with us for the rest of the season and hopefully many years because at 21 with the potential he has he has to improve in final positions but he is an extraordinary player," said the Spaniard, as reported by Manchester Evening News.

"Otherwise, he would not have played more than 3,000 minutes last season. At the end, as always, the desire of the players is above everything but then they have to find an agreement with the club.

"If they don't take an agreement, the player will be here because the club spends money on those players."

Amid all the talk of Savinho trading Manchester City for Tottenham, many fans noted the possibility of the Brazil international actually facing City in his first game as a Spurs player, providing of course that a transfer does go through before then. However, that now doesn't look like it will be the case after Guardiola issued an update on the player's fitness in his pre-match press conference.

"Savinho is injured from Palermo. Few weeks he will be out," revealed the City boss. That update from Guardiola means City will avoid a nightmare Savinho scenario where the player comes up against them and potentially hurts them in his first game for his new club.

Going on Guardiola's revelation about Savinho's injury and the length of his absence, Tottenham fans may have to remain patient for the player's debut if he joins the club over the coming days. After the Manchester City game, Spurs host Bournemouth on Saturday, August 30 and then they travel to West Ham on Saturday, September 13 in their first game after the international break.
