Everything you need to know about the potential punishments Bruno Fernandes and Michael Carrick face from the Football Association
- Bruno Fernandes and Michael Carrick could face sanctions from the Football Association for media comments made after Manchester United drew 2-2 with Bournemouth. United's captain and head coach complained that Amad was not awarded a penalty after being challenged by Adrien Truffert.
- Both believed that the incident was almost identical to the one when Harry Maguire gave away a spot-kick after challenging Evanilson. Eli Junior Kroupi converted the subsequent penalty to equalise in the 81st minute.
- Mathues Cunha already won United one penalty around the hour mark after being pulled down by Alex Jimenez, which Fernandes scored to give United the lead. Amad then went down at one end before Bournemouth countered to equalise through Ryan Christie.
- Carrick said afterward: "We should have had another penalty, obviously, if you get one, you must get the other. It's pretty much identical for me, two-hand grab, either way, [the officials] got one wrong, but to give one and not give the other, I can't get my head around it."
- Fernandes agreed, saying: "We could have gone 2-0 up, but we ended up conceding a goal, not getting a penalty, and then we ended up getting a penalty against, where, more or less, it is the same situation as Amad. I know it is difficult for the referee to give two penalties to the same team, but what I don't understand is why VAR does not get involved in that situation or in the situation with Harry, either one is a penalty, or neither is a penalty."
- Andoni Iraola disagreed, however, adding afterwards: I didn't think there was anything in that one [Amad]. I think the Evanilson one and the Matheus Cunha one are both penalties because defenders lose the position, and then the Amad one is never a penalty."
- The FA could sanction Carrick and Fernandes for their media comments if they deem them to constitute improper conduct and/or bring the game into disrepute. Rodri received an £80,000 fine after implying bias and/or questioning the integrity of a match official after Manchester City drew with Tottenham Hotspur.
- Rodri said following that match: "We won too much, and the people don't want us to win, but the referee has to be neutral, and for me, honestly, it's not fair." He admitted the charge and was warned about his future conduct.
