Man United set sights on Tottenham midfield target with £175m summer warchest

Man United are willing to spend big in the summer to revamp their midfield, and this may come as bad news for Tottenham Hotspur.

While Tottenham strengthened their midfield through the addition of Conor Gallagher in January, it was reported that the Lilywhites were also eyeing other additions in the middle of the park.

Spurs allegedly wanted to add a creative passer to their midfield, and having failed to do so in January, one would expect them to prioritise that in the summer.

Over recent months, it has been reported by multiple sources that Bournemouth’s Alex Scott is on Tottenham’s radar as the 22-year-old continues to enjoy a breakthrough season at the Vitality Stadium.

Man United want to beat Tottenham to Alex Scott

A new report in Fichajes has now revealed that Man United want to revamp the core of their squad in the summer, and their owners are set to set aside €200m (£174.3m) to do that.

One of the players on their wishlist is Scott, who is seen at Old Trafford as ‘one of the most promising players in the Premier League‘.

United want to secure the Cherries starlet before his price inflates by his possible participation in the World Cup, with his addition being seen by the Manchester club as a ‘strategic’ one to provide depth to their squad.

Michael Carrick values Scott’s versatility, with his ability to play as an attacking midfielder or a central midfielder offering the United boss more tactical flexibility to change his system.

Spurs may have one advantage over Man United in race for Scott

Despite the pull of Man United and their alleged financial resources, the Lilywhites may still have an advantage over them in the race for the Bournemouth man.

This is because on a couple of different occasions, Alex Scott has publicly admitted that he is a big Tottenham fan and that he comes from a Spurs-supporting family.

The North Londoners would thus be hoping that the lure of playing at N17 will turn the young midfielder’s head in the summer.
