Man Utd makes first move for $157M midfielder in transfer battle with Liverpool

2 hours ago 2

It's believed that Manchester United has reached out to Nottingham Forest regarding the potential acquisition of Elliot Anderson, as the midfielder continues to draw attention from top-tier clubs.

The Premier League star has been a standout performer for the East Midlands team since his transfer from Newcastle in 2024, and his impressive displays at the City Ground have earned him a spot in the national squad ahead of next year's World Cup. Unfortunately for Forest, Anderson's excellent form has also caught the eye of some of their domestic competitors.

Mirror Football reported last month that Manchester City and Chelsea were interested in Anderson, but it's understood that United and Liverpool are also fans, with the Red Devils now stepping up their pursuit.

According to Sky in Germany, United bosses have expressed their interest in the 23-year-old, making Forest aware of their intentions.

However, the Europa League side is not keen on letting him go.

The report suggests that Forest would require a fee in the region of £100 million ($131.4 million) to £120 million ($157.7 million) to even contemplate a sale, a sum United is unlikely to meet.

Anderson has just under four years remaining on the contract he signed at the City Ground last summer, putting Forest in a strong negotiating position.

The midfielder was acquired for approximately £35 million ($46 million), with Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos heading the other way as both Newcastle and Forest endeavoured to comply with PSR regulations.

Since then, Anderson has made 56 appearances for Forest, finding the back of the net three times. He's also earned four England caps.

"I feel full of confidence coming off the back end of the Euros, and I want to carry it on," he said to The Telegraph. "My focus there was just on performing and putting myself in the best position possible for the seniors.

"That's all I've done, and that's what I'll continue to do. I'm in a really good place now. I've got to carry on my performances at club level with Forest and see where it takes me. My biggest aim this season is to add some numbers [goals and assists] to my performances, that will probably take me to the next level."

When asked if his transfer to Forest came as a surprise, Anderson responded: "Yeah, 100 percent.

"It definitely was. I didn't really see it coming, but it's the new rules in football these days. I got a phone call while I was away on holiday, telling me I was possibly going to leave. A few days later, I was flying to Nottingham.

"I've come to Forest and it's really benefitted me as a player, but maybe I didn't see it like that when I left Newcastle. Everything happens for a reason, and it's been a great move for me. I'm really enjoying my football."
