Rui Costa is one of Serie A’s greatest ever players, and having starred for Fiorentina and AC Milan, he is synonymous with silverware.
In the early 2000s, Milan were well amongst the kings of Europe, and whilst they may not have dominated as they did before the millennium, they were still one of the best teams on the continent.
This is proven by the fact that Costa won a Champions League, a Supercoppa, a Scudetto and a Coppa Italia during his time at the club, alongside a UEFA Super Cup. Not a bad trophy cabinet at all for a five-year stint at the club.
The Portuguese attacker wore the Rossoneri colours 124 times, scoring four goals. However, he is still remembered fondly.
Costa recalls time at Milan
Today, he reminisced on his time with the Diavolo and Fiorentina – whom he left to move to San Siro – and his words to Benfica FM have been relayed by ViolaNews.
“I was incredibly happy in Italy, 12 wonderful years in two fantastic cities and clubs that gave me so much. Teams and people I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. I won many more titles at Milan, but at Fiorentina, there was more passion for their city.

“Do you return to these cities often? Not as much as I’d like, time doesn’t allow it, nor do my commitments at Benfica. I miss Florence and Milan so much that when I go there, I suffer a bit. I’ve made friends in Italy, but when I go back, I can’t see them all.
“It’s something that makes me feel really bad.”
