Manchester City could well beat Liverpool to the signing of Marc Guehi in January, although two former Reds have already told their former club what it needs to do

Liverpool has been urged to “go all out” for Marc Guehi this month by a couple of former Reds as it looks like a battle with Manchester City could be in the offing.
Guehi’s future is of course the source of rumors as he enters the final six months of his contract at Crystal Palace, and with Oliver Glasner opening the door for offers, there could be an opportunity for Liverpool to make another play for the defender.
The Reds came close to signing Guehi on deadline day during the summer, only for Palace to pull the plug at the eleventh hour after a fee had already been agreed.

City is thought to be looking at Guehi now after defenders Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias picked up injuries, and a deal before the end of the month hasn’t been ruled out.
That could force the Reds to move sooner than they might have hoped, given that the 25-year-old will be available for free in just a matter of months. Danny Murphy, though, has already implored his old club to strike early.
"I would get Guehi in January. Maybe Palace won't let it happen but he's perfect in so many ways,” Murphy told Aceodds.com in October.

"He knows the league, won't need time to settle. He's calm, he's quick and he's a good footballer. He's everything you want in a centre-back. Liverpool will need to do something."
Murphy continued: "I would go all out on Guehi. They've got a relationship with Guehi and his camp.
"Liverpool came in for him in the same way they tried to get Van Dijk when Southampton asked for more money at the last minute and the deal fell through, so Liverpool waited and got him in the next window. For such an important position you need the best or the one you want."

And Murphy isn’t the only former Liverpool star to have urged the club to make another play for Guehi this month, with Don Hutchison agreeing after suggesting the Reds could have avoided this situation in the summer.
"Liverpool should have just paid Palace whatever they wanted,” Hutchison told SportsCasting.com in November. “I think it was a poor move. They were so focused on signing (Alexander) Isak.

"I understand that, because you can’t turn it down, but Guehi had to be the other priority.
"This January has to be the marker with Guehi if they want to finish in the top four.
"They need to try and pull out all the stops to land him in January because by the summertime, I think he’ll have plenty of options to choose from, and they could be more attractive to him and his family."
Liverpool.com says: Murphy and Hutchison are both right, and that was before we knew City might make a move for Guehi. Liverpool can't afford to wait until the summer now — if it still wants him, it needs to make a play this month, and not let City snatch him from under its nose.
