Maresca compliments Nkunku and gives reason for departure: “A strong player”

Finding space in the Chelsea team is a difficult task for many good players, and Christopher Nkunku was the latest to make the swap to AC Milan.

In recent years, Chelsea and Milan have conducted a lot of business together. If it were a case of one or two deals, it would not be as recognised, but there are six cases in the past five years, each with different levels of success.

Fikayo Tomori, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Christian Pulisic, Joao Felix and then Nkunku. Of course, Bakayoko and Felix are the standouts – for the wrong reasons – barring them, it has been a relatively successful exchange more times than not.

Maresca speaks about Nkunku

In the summer, the Frenchman became the latest to trade London for Lombardy, and whilst he has not been given many opportunities so far, he has been getting up to match speed and has still scored in the Coppa Italia.

Today, Enzo Maresca praised the player, but also gave the reason, to Gazzetta dello Sport, why he ultimately had to leave the club, as MilanPress relayed.

“He’s a strong player, I’ve said that several times. For several reasons, especially because we have Cole Palmer at his position, it’s become difficult for Christo.”

Can Milan win the Scudetto?

“The usual teams [can]. Inter, Juventus, Roma, who could be a surprise. Milan doesn’t have any cups and could be an advantage. The discussion is open to several teams.”
