Marotta discusses owner ambition, ‘historic’ day and Euro 2032: “Extraordinary for post-war Milan”

Inter and AC Milan now own San Siro, and it is perhaps one of the most historic sporting occasions in the history of the City.

A stadium like San Siro has a legacy outside of football’s borders. In a city known for its splendour, it adds to the feeling of Milano, and has done so since it opened in 1926. So, recreating that image and creating a new legacy will be difficult.

Put simply, Norman Foster and David Manica have a massive task on their hands. However, they have a wealth of experience to put into this project, and they were not the only applicants to design the new stadium.

Marotta: San Siro’s importance

Yesterday, Paolo Scaroni spoke in detail about several things, from the financial records for the year to the new stadium itself, and this has been mirrored by Beppe Marotta, who offered a brief summary on the future before Inter’s Champions League clash last night, as MilanNews write.

A comment on the purchase of San Siro?

“Today is a historic day for Milan, for the two teams, and for Italy, not just football. We’ve marked a milestone with the acquisition of San Siro, which deserves the utmost respect as an icon. We’re committed to building a stadium that meets modern standards in terms of safety, hospitality, and attractiveness. And we also want to redevelop the neighbourhood, which is important for the city. The operation will take time, but it will represent something extraordinary for post-war Milan.”

When will it be ready?

“I don’t want to go out on a limb, it will be a stadium that will have to be ready and available for the European Championships, so before 2032. There will be many uphill climbs, as Scaroni said, unfortunately, Italy is made up of this bureaucracy, but the owners are very determined, and for this, I thank them. I’m sure we’ll get there.”
