Marotta throws shade a Milan with Champions League dig: “Best represents Italy”

AC Milan are, to many, the most successful Italian club in Europe. However, that view may not be held elsewhere.

In recent years, there can be no denying that Milan have struggled, both in Serie A and in Europe; it is a sad reality. Of course, there was the Scudetto and Champions League run a few years back. However, they are not the team of old.

The Rossoneri of the past were dominant in Italy and Europe, as the trophy cabinet shows and as the fans hope will return.

Marotta’s claim

Before last night’s game, Beppe Marotta spoke to Sky Sport about the Champions League and made quite a bold claim in the process, as MilanPress relays.

“Inter is the club that best represents Italy in the Champions League. We’ve been playing in it for seven years, and it allows us to say that there’s a hint of pride. Today we arrive at this stadium and with this team, knowing we’re competitive.”

Inter may have been in the competition for the past seven years, and Milan may not be present now. However, it is crucial to note that the Rossoneri still hold seven Champions League titles. Something which the Nerazzurri have not.
