This season is crucial for AC Milan. Restoration to their previous state is a must, but failing to do so could have severe consequences.
It is a season where Milan must return to basics, and Allegri is one of the best to do so. The Italian knows Serie A, he knows how to win, but, perhaps most importantly, he knows the Rossoneri. After all, this is not his first time with the club.
He is no stranger to difficult environments and big clubs, but that is only a side factor. For many, the Milanese spirit has been lost recently, and someone who truly understands it must be the one to lead the club forward.
Capello’s faith
For Fabio Capello, there is no one greater to lead this next phase of the Diavolo than Allegri. He understands the situation, and there is hope that he can find the cure for the current struggles. Today, he wrote his thoughts for Gazzetta dello Sport.
“After having already been to Casa Milan several times, where he met with the management to plan the market guidelines and strategies in managing the new squad, Massimiliano Allegri will cross the green gate of Milanello for the first time today. Or rather, he will cross it again: for him it is a déjà vu and this undoubtedly represents a strong point.
“Many things have changed, certainly, but he already knows the environment. Now, knowledge is a crucial term. In fact, Max knows the “problem” of playing for Milan and playing at San Siro well.
“Fundamental concepts, which require valuable players in market choices. Allegri is the right choice at this particular moment because he is a guarantee. He is building the team according to his ideas, together with Igli Tare. He is looking for players to be able to set up the group as he has in mind.
“This is a fundamental starting point, obviously with the hope of being able to reason about concrete market objectives,” Capello states.
“There are several names on his list, with one caveat: number one and number two are fine, the third… better to leave it alone. Clarity is needed in these cases and Max’s personality is important. Wherever he went, he always made his point with the players and he always got everything out of the players.
“There is the tale of the short face, of course, the victories observed under this narrative, but I believe that it is simply important to win. This year, Antonio Conte’s Napoli was rightly praised, which in fact won with the best defence, as most of the time happens. It is a very important point, in this respect, Allegri knows what to do.
“No flights of fancy, but substance. Max is an intelligent person who understands the place where he works. However, I would not define him as an iron sergeant per se. He is simply someone who does not accept whims, because we are talking about a team game.

“Last year’s episodes were not acceptable, but I would say that this year, with him at the helm, it will not occur to anyone to “show off” in similar things. A player understands immediately if a coach has leadership that leads to victory. And when you make the players understand that what you say turns into results, then you are on to something.
“Fonseca and Conceiçao were unable to convince the team with their playing ideas and personality; they lacked leadership. Starting with the many changes, the player does not understand where the coach wants to go, who in turn loses credibility.
“Allegri has already given the classic warning to navigators with the introduction of practically daily double training sessions. The objective, in a season without cups, can only be the championship.”
