Journalist Pietro Mazzara has refuted the idea that Mike Maignan is close to renewing his contract with AC Milan, contrary to other reports.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Saturday that Milan have officially delivered an offer to Maignan to extend his contract, which expires on June 30th. It’s a significant offer, in line with the salary of Rafael Leao, the highest-paid player in the squad.
They even went on to say that the Frenchman appears likely to accept the deal, therefore having done a U-turn on his previous stance of being determined to depart the club at the end of the season on a free transfer.
Leao-level salary ready
Pietro Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews and he dedicated part of it to giving an update on the Maignan renewal saga, denying any notion that he is close to putting pen on paper.
“Mike Maignan and the renewal. The real news is that the stalemate between the parties, both practically and operationally, remains,” he said.
“In recent days, various reports have circulated, from the Gazzetta claiming an official offer from the club to Maignan to conflicting reports that suggest a lull has developed between the club and the player on the matter.

“What we know is the following: Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare continue to work with Maignan to convince him to no longer be so inflexible, and the pressure is constant, but also timed and done with the right approach.
“Milan are willing to put forward an offer that would bring Maignan up to Rafa Leao’s fixed base salary (€5.5 million) plus bonuses. This is a significant offer, similar to the one made in January 2025 and then revised downwards in February, after the parties had already shaken hands.
“The team, in turn, are pushing for Maignan to renew his contract, but sometimes matters of principle can be more important than money. It remains to be seen whether things will change or whether it will be a remake of what happened five years ago with Gigio Donnarumma.”
