Journalist Pietro Mazzara has suggested the salary aspect of Mike Maignan’s renewal is sorted, and now the club are down to the final step.
During the pre-match interview he did with DAZN before kick-off at the Stadio Artemio Franchi yesterday, sporting director Igli Tare confirmed that Maignan wants to stay at Milan. He urged that ‘common sense’ prevails, and that signatures and handshakes follow.
Commissions the key
Mazzara published his weekly column for MilanNews in which he spoke about the draw against Fiorentina on Sunday afternoon as well as the progression of negotiations with Maignan over a renewal.
“Maignan’s contract renewal: now comes the final step towards the finish line, namely the commissions for Mike’s agent,” he said.
“This aspect has been highlighted in every article about Maignan since mid-December, and now Milan will have to take a major step to get the green light that Igli Tare also indicated in yesterday’s pre-match press conference.

“Kebe [his agent] is demanding a high commission because, essentially, Milan must ‘buy back’ Maignan’s contract. The feeling is that the parties will eventually find a compromise, especially since, today, blowing things up like this would be largely counterproductive for everyone.”
Recent reports have suggested that a meeting point is close. Milan have essentially put forward the the same offer as a year ago, but the contract term is different, as the Rossoneri had offered a three-year deal in January 2025.
After months of silence, during which Maignan seemed to have put an end to talks, something has changed in recent weeks. The Frenchman is feeling at his best again, and the club have mended relations well.
