Mediaset: Allegri and Thiago Silva were in favour of return but Milan said no

Massimiliano Allegri had expressed a willingness to reunite with Thiago Silva next month, but AC Milan’s management decided it wouldn’t be the best solution.

Milan have been lacking depth at the back so far this season, relying on Koni De Winter as the only deputy for the centre-back positions. Sadly, when called upon, the Belgian hasn’t exactly been successful and this has forced the Rossoneri to act.

Indeed, they are now looking for a defender who can play both as a centre-back and a wing-back. Initially, it seemed as though a sensational return for Thiago Silva was potentially on the cards, with Allegri pushing for the Brazilian’s arrival.

According to Mediaset’s Orazio Accomando, Allegri had given ‘total openness’ to the move and the 41-year-old himself was also in favour. However, the Milan management decided to say no to the opportunity (most likely age-related), shifting their focus to other targets.

The veteran defender now seems to be one step away from Porto instead, where he will be hoping to impress enough in order to get called up for the World Cup in the summer. Allegri, on the other hand, will have to wait a little longer for his centre-back reinforcement.
