Michael Olise already explained Man Utd snub as Liverpool given transfer hope

1 day ago 44

Michael Olise could be in Liverpool’s sights soon as the Reds look at a long-term plan to replace Mohamed Salah.

While he hasn’t started the season in the blistering form he showed in the previous campaign, suggestions from some quarters that Liverpool made a mistake by giving Salah a new contract - mostly from rivals, it should be said - very much feel premature at this stage.

Nevertheless, now aged 33, there is little doubt that the Reds will soon need to find a long-term replacement for the Egyptian, whether or not he sees out his remaining two years at Anfield, or even extends his stay even further.

To that end, reports are suggesting that Liverpool has made signing a long-term replacement for Salah a top priority over the next couple of years, and Olise has emerged as a possible target.

According to the Daily Mail, the Bayern Munich star could be at the top of the Reds’ shopping list. The 23-year-old’s reputation has certainly grown over the last couple of years, having continued to impress in Germany since making the move from Crystal Palace last year.

Having only joined the Eagles as a 19-year-old, his form at Selhurst Park earmarked him for big things, and he attracted plenty of interest last summer before eventually heading to Munich.

One of the sides most heavily linked with his services though was Manchester United. Chelsea had also been touted as a possible destination, with Olise having spent time with the Blues’ academy, although a return to Stamford Bridge in 2023 was quickly off the table when he signed a new contract at Palace.

Detailing his reasons for turning down United and Chelsea’s advances in favor of Bayern, Olise pointed to the German giant’s position in the Champions League, as well as their dominance in Germany as the main attractions.

"The talks with FC Bayern were very positive, and I’m very happy to now be playing for such a big club,” Olise told Bayern’s website after signing (via the Mirror).

"It’s a great challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring that we win as many titles as possible with our team in the coming years."

Hearing that Olise is hungry for title will come as music to the ears of Liverpool fans, assuming the club is looking at the French international as a possible heir to Salah.

His comments would certainly seem to indicate that United won’t be back in the running for his signature any time soon, given Ruben Amorim’s side has a long, long way to go before it catches back up with the Reds.

Olise will certainly be a name to keep an eye on over the next couple of years, especially if he continues the sort of form he’s already shown in Munich, having been named in the Bundesliga’s team of the season after his first campaign for Bayern.
