AC Milan and Bari will be wearing black armbands during tomorrow’s Coppa Italia clash, it has been confirmed, and there will also be a minute of silence before it starts.
Milan are gearing up to start their season this weekend, entering the Coppa Italia much earlier than usual due to the 8th-place finish last season. They will be up against Bari, the Serie B side, and anything other than a win would be a huge failure.
The competitiveness aside, though, a statement from Bari a few days back highlighted a tragic incident. The club’s midfielder Matthias Verreth unexpectedly lost his 14-month-old son, Elliot, a few weeks back and there will thus be a minute of silence before the game.
Furthermore, all players will wear a black armband for the entire clash. Veretth has been called up by head coach Fabio Caserta and it looks like he will start in the midfield as well. No doubt, it will be a very emotional night for him at San Siro.
While you wouldn’t expect anything else, it’s nice to see the clubs coming together and showing their support in such a difficult time for the player and his family. Kick-off is set for 21:15 CEST.
