‘Milan do not have the urgency’ – Ambrosini states Inter have Scudetto mentality

AC Milan are still very much in the Scudetto fight, even if they are at a five-point disadvantage. However, this might be too much, as Massimo Ambrosini suggests.

The win against Bologna in midweek was certainly one fit for champions, but Milan have often fallen below that standard in games where they are expected to show class. In fact, all season, they have struggled against bottom-half teams.

Whilst their record against the best teams in the division has improved substantially from last season, they have dropped too many silly points. As a result, they must overturn a five-point gap before the end of the season if they are to win the title.

Ambrosini’s out of hope

That aforementioned win at the Dall’Ara ensured that the gap did not extend, and it is fair to suggest that the Rossoneri must be near perfect between now and the end of the season to win the Scudetto.

For Ambrosini, who spoke at the Cronache di Spogliatoio (via Calciomercato.com), it seems that silverware may already be out of their hands.

“I think that Milan does not have the urgency to win the championship, which Inter has. This could be an advantage. Sure, it depends on how many points you get.

“But there is no doubt that if they were to arrive more or less with these points [to the derby], an Inter victory would clearly mark the end, a Milan victory would undoubtedly bring the others closer, if you look at it from this point of view.”

“If Napoli and Juve continue to score points, you can also put it on them, thinking that they continue to score points. Of course, there will also be Inter-Juve before that, and so something either on one side or the other takes away.

“But in my opinion, it’s a sensational opportunity. I repeat, for Milan, this non-urgency to win makes you enter the field even with a lightness, that if you have a minimum goal, which is now at seven points, you are really even lighter and calmer.

“Now, if you get to the derby and also keep that gap there, that gap there Inter, have also shown historically that they are not so much able to manage it emotionally. Not only with Milan, but we also saw what happened in the other years”.

The Italian also discussed Adrien Rabiot and his impact.

“When Pirlo coached Juventus, I had strong doubts about Rabiot. He always made him play, but I told him that someone like that would make him play badly. Andrea instead told me that he was really strong.

“Technically, he has gained even more confidence than before. It seems that he plays a different sport. It seems like someone who has less trouble than others to do the right things, but the effect is triple.”
