Antonio Vitiello believes that the AC Milan management must give Massimiliano Allegri a couple of January signings.
Milan have a very small squad, making the decision to go into the season with just 19 outfield players. The Rossoneri won’t be playing in the Champions League, but they’ll still be in the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana during a very tough winter.
Added to that is the unknown and frightening dynamic of injuries. In the last international break several players went down hurt which severely eroded the depth available to Allegri and no doubt forced reflections ahead of the window opening in just over six weeks.
Speaking in his weekly column for MilanNews, Antonio Vitiello took stock of things as we enter the final international break of the year. He spoke about the idea of the ‘real Milan’ coming soon, and also what is needed to boost the squad.
“The squad still seems very short. And with Athekame and Odogu among the 19 outfield players, the options are quite limited. The quality of the attack needs to be improved, and the defence improved.
“In January, Milan must invest to be able to play their cards right up until the final matchday of the season. Allegri doesn’t necessarily need a 26-man squad; a couple of targeted reinforcements, done in the right way, would be enough to improve the team.”
