Milestones and the best streak in Europe: All the key stats from Roma vs. AC Milan

1 week ago 39

AC Milan closed out January with a point on the road against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

Milan took the lead against Roma through Koni De Winter’s goal in the 62nd minute, but then Lorenzo Pellegrini levelled from the penalty spot in the 74th minute. The spoils were shared therefore in a 1-1 draw that means Inter are now five points clear at the top.

Lucky escape or art of design?

Just like the Como game earlier in the month, many are pointing to the stats which suggest Milan were dominated for most of the game, and it isn’t too far from the truth.

Roma had 58% of the ball, generated 2.75 Expected Goals to Milan’s 0.44, had two big chances to one, triple the amount of total shots and over triple the amount of shots on target, plus more corners.

As many have pointed out, Roma actually committed more fouls in the game and yet they didn’t receive a single yellow card, whereas Andrea Colombo – who is being criticised by Milan fans for his performance – gave out four yellows to the Rossoneri.

Streaks and milestones

Milan have not lost any of their last 21 Serie A matches: this is currently the longest ongoing unbeaten streak in the top five European leagues.

Koni De Winter has scored two of his four Serie A goals against Roma (the previous one on 15 September 2024 with Genoa).

Luka Modrić is the oldest player to have provided at least three assists in the current ‘top five’ European leagues. The Croatian is only the second player to provide two assists in a Serie A season after turning 40 since this data has been available (since 2004-05), after Zlatan Ibrahimović in 2021-22 (three).

The game marked the 200th appearance for Fikayo Tomori with Milan across all competitions.
