Milos Kerkez facing early Liverpool warning as Andy Robertson prediction made

2 hours ago 2

Ally McCoist has backed Andy Robertson to fight tooth and nail to regain his spot in Liverpool's team following the summer arrival of Milos Kerkez.

Kerkez was one of several big-money additions to the Reds' squad during the transfer window, and the Hungarian has started in all six of the club's Premier League games so far this season.

Robertson lined up in the Champions League win over Atletico Madrid as well as last week's League Cup game against Southampton — scoring in the former — but he will no doubt be keen to regain his place in the league side before long.

Kerkez has not had the best of starts to his Liverpool career, and was hooked during the first half of the win over Burnley at Turf Moor earlier in the season, and former Rangers star McCoist believes Robertson will be putting the pressure on his younger teammate.

McCoist told soccer betting sitetalkSPORT Bet: "I don't think he's got an ego, I genuinely don't. I can guarantee you, he'll be disappointed about not starting games, but Andy Robertson's one of these guys.

"I've known Andy a while and I've watched him. It's a fantastic story, Andy Robertson's career, Queen's Park, Dundee United, Hull, Liverpool. It's a wonderful, wonderful story. Scotland captain, and he's got there clearly through ability.

"You don't get there unless you've got it, and he's got bags of it. But he's got an inner strength and a steel about him, which I am 100% confident will keep him in that Liverpool team for a lot of the games this season. I don't have any doubt about it, I really don't.

"Andy Robertson is the one player I would guarantee will react in the manner that Arne Slot would want him to react in, and that is to get the sleeves rolled up, get yourself into training, work your socks off.

"If you get asked to play anywhere in any game, you do it. And that's the make-up of Andy Robertson."

Kerkez faced criticism for his role in Crystal Palace's winning goal at Selhurst Park on Saturday, and Robertson could come into the team for Tuesday's Champions League meeting with Galatasaray, when experienced heads may be the order of the day in an atmosphere that is notoriously hostile.
