The Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi has joined the group of voices that are in favour of AC Milan and Inter’s new stadium project.
The mission to build a new stadium became a farce years ago, and it has dragged on after the initial announcement in 2019. Earlier in the summer we provided a summary of the key recent events in an article on our Substack, and last week the news was about more opposition.
At present, it seems that the framework is there for the City Council to sell the current stadium and surrounding land to the clubs. However, it must be voted through and there is a section of the city hall that are likely to remain against it. So, things remain in limbo.
Abodi spoke at the Il Tempo delle Donne 2025 event and he made some comments on the stadium situation in Milan, voicing his support for the clubs. MilanPress relayed his comments.
“San Siro was history, but not the future. The Olympic program regarding San Siro is finalised. I hope above all that Milan and Italy will have a new, modern stadium.
“We feel the need for it, and UEFA has also made it very clear and unequivocal. I believe we must be able to combine respect for the past with this irrepressible desire for the future.”
