Henrikh Mkhitaryan now plays for Inter, but things could have been very different. In fact, before they were involved, he could have played for AC Milan.
There have been several players who could have played for Milan, and instead moved to Inter and vice versa. For example, Sandro Tonali could have played for the Nerazzurri, but chose with his heart instead, and now is one of the Rossoneri’s favourite sons.
Mkhitaryan at Milan?
The situation was somewhat similar for Mkhitaryan, who had two chances to move to the Diavolo. In 2021, the club were reportedly interested, and the midfielder stated he didn’t know where his future was.
However, he ended up going to Inter and the rest is history. Two years prior, though, he could have headed to Milano rather than Rome. Speaking at the Festival dello Sport 2025, the Armenian spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about a move to Milan and why it never happened, as MilanNews24 relay.

“It all started in August 2019. Mino told me we had to change because I wasn’t happy. He asked me if I preferred Milan or Roma. And I didn’t know which to choose. Milan focused on Shakhtar’s Tyson. I would have gotten there if he hadn’t arrived. Then I told Mino that I preferred to go to Roma.”
“I had no news for five days. Then we got to August 30th, the Arsenal-Tottenham derby was being played. Half an hour before the technical meeting, Mino said to me: ‘What are you doing?’. And I said: ‘I’m going to play.’
“He said: ‘Oh, okay, but you have a flight to Rome right after the match, we have to sign the contract.’ The flight from London was at 7 in the morning. At the airport, a guard asked me: ‘Have you signed? I’m a Roma fan.’ That’s where my relationship with Roma was born.”
