The San Donato project was seen as the alternative to San Siro for so long, but it could now serve a purpose to AC Milan.
Yesterday, a deed was signed to make Inter and Milan the owners of San Siro, a mission which has taken years. However, we are now there, and it is just the start of a very exciting project which has plenty of potential.
With that, though, the death of another project was also confirmed: the San Donato idea.
70 to 18
In the past few years, it has always been one or the other, and work had gone into the area to get it ready for a new stadium. However, with no possibility of a ‘San Donato clause’ being allowed into a new deal, the Rossoneri abandoned the idea.
It was not completely left to die, though. Ultimately, an investment has been made into the land, and the Diavolo must not waste it.

MilanNews report this morning that a new idea has now emerged. Rather than a 70,000 stadium, the club have looked into the possibility of making ‘a sports arena, smaller than the original stadium (approximately 18,000 seats compared to the over 70,000 planned for the stadium), which, thanks to sporting and other events, could provide a satisfactory return on the investments made.’
This was revealed in the 2024-25 budget document, and it could certainly be something to be looked at.
