MN: ‘A new opportunity’ – Nkunku heading toward third Serie A start for Milan

1 week ago 52

As we get closer to matchday, it seems Massimiliano Allegri will select Christopher Nkunku to start against Lazio tomorrow for AC Milan.

There has been a lot said about strikers recently, and Christian Pulisic’s injury probably reinforces the need for additional cover. Santiago Gimenez’s injury has left the team a little bare, and the American’s absence proves that.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nkunku have reportedly been the two choices for Allegri for Saturday, but it seems that the Frenchman – as the more natural forward – will get the nod to start the game.

Nkunku’s chance

MilanNews writes that the former Chelsea man seems to have the upper hand, with it potentially highlighting the fact that Allegri could prefer to play on the front foot in tomorrow’s game. However, it also could just be that the Italian’s hand is forced. If it was not Nkunku, he would lose a midfield change in Loftus-Cheek, if he were to start.

With one goal so far, the 28-year-old must start to turn the tide, with Jean-Pierre Papin looking to boost his confidence ahead of this weekend, stating that he is a great player. Milan fans are yet to really see anywhere near the €42 million paid in the summer. So, this weekend can be a chance to move forward.

Ultimately, he lacks match fitness and confidence, and starting will be a boost if nothing else. If he can provide a performance – and maybe a contribution – who knows, he may begin to kick on and €42m could look like value.
