MN: €37m, over two months and no goals – Nkunku gamble burdens Milan

Christopher Nkunku has been unable to make a difference for AC Milan so far, between needing time to improve his physical condition and failing to find the back of the net.

Milan’s signing of Nkunku came out of nowhere in the summer, striking an agreement with Chelsea at around €37m plus bonuses. In short, the Rossoneri paid a lot of money for the striker – as we highlighted in a recent bonus article, he’s the most expensive player on the team.

Yesterday’s performance, as MilanNews states, was yet another disappointing one for the Frenchman. Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare still believe that he can play as a centre-forward, but the performances so far tell a very different story.

The technical quality of Nkunku is obvious, but the problem is whether he can actually play in the striker role or not. At the end of the day, he’s not scoring any goals (none in the league so far) and that’s very costly for Milan, especially in a game like yesterday with huge chances missed.

Indeed, Milan chose to invest in a hybrid player with the hopes that he could adapt to the striker role, but the team is still crying out for a true No.9. So far, as such, the summer gamble hasn’t paid off and the Rossoneri could be left with a lot of regret.
