Massimiliano Allegri seems determined to continue using Rafael Leao in a more advanced role, according to a report.
As MilanNews writes, the three-man defence wasn’t the only tactical innovation Allegri introduced to Milanello. The two-striker attack with a midfield filled by a five-man line is another, and he appears ready to stick with it.
Among those directly concerned is Leao, because there is no left winger in the system that the coach is proposing. However, it will be more of a ‘evolution than a revolution’ for the Portuguese.
Allegri’s move
Allegri has in fact begun working with the former Lille star with one goal in mind: to transform him from a winger to a penalty-area centre-forward, something that seems to be within the reach of the Milan No.10 after his 17-minute display against Bari.

He showed numerous things in preseason and in that cup match, but above all he scored headers worthy of a true striker. Not only that, but Leao was different in his positioning on the pitch, in his interpretation of the role and in his attitude.
This can only make Allegri happy, who sees in him a necessary asset to bring Milan back to where it deserves to be. Obviously, it will take some time to see him at full strength, not only physically – given the calf injury that sidelined him – but also technically.
Leao’s transformation into a centre-forward has begun, and the mission is clear: 20 goals this season.
