MN: Fenerbahce maintain contact over Nkunku – how Mateta move could be unlocked

Christopher Nkunku’s future at AC Milan remains uncertain, and he could yet depart before the winter window closes.

MilanNews confirm that Milan accelerated their pursuit of Jean-Philippe Mateta overnight, the striker who has made 34 appearances and scored 10 goals for Crystal Palace this season in the Premier League and European competitions.

It won’t be an easy deal to pull off because of the price tag and competition, but the Rossoneri would like to try to bring him to Milanello immediately in a €30m operation. Otherwise his arrival would be postponed until the summer window.

Nkunku: The key to acceleration

For his arrival to happen before the February 2 deadline, Crystal Palace must sign another striker. That box looks like being ticked, because Jorgen Strand Larsen – ironically a former Milan Primavera forward – looks to be heading there in a €50m deal.

In addition to that, Milan must make room for Mateta in their squad. The main candidate to leave seems to be Christopher Nkunku, who has been hotly pursued by Fenerbahçe in recent weeks. This month, the Turkish club have maintained close contact with the Frenchman’s entourage.

The one pushing for the former Chelsea player’s arrival in Istanbul is primarily their coach Domenico Tedesco, who knows him well, having coached him at Leipzig. It won’t be easy for these two deals (Mateta and Nkunku) to close, given the limited time available, but ‘an attempt will be made’.
