MN: Leao consoled Füllkrug after penalty miss and double substitution in Pisa-Milan

Niclas Füllkrug was very disappointed after his penalty miss against Pisa and was consoled by Rafael Leao, as well as other teammates, after the final whistle.

At half-time, Massimiliano Allegri decided to replace Christopher Nkunku with Füllkrug. The German was immediately involved in a wonderful goal, scored by Adrien Rabiot, but it was ruled out for a handball on the former.

Then, Milan were awarded a penalty after Strahinja Pavlovic was brought down in the box. Füllkrug stepped up and hit the outside of the post, adding to the nightmare evening. As if that wasn’t enough, he was subbed off in the final minute, making him an easy flop of the game.

Leao encouraged Füllkrug

After the game, when Milan celebrated with their fans at the away end, Füllkrug was visibly disappointed and almost hid under his hood. Rafael Leao went over to the striker and encouraged him to enjoy the moment, per MilanNews, giving him some much-needed support.

The German likely won’t play the next game from start, but the Rossoneri still need him as a solution off the bench, especially the strength he adds in the box with his physique. As such, there is simply no time for him to regret the penalty miss.

Some have wondered why the penalty wasn’t retaken, as there was a clear encroachment from the defender, but the referee made the right decision as per the rules.
