Rafael Leao will hopefully be ready to return for AC Milan this weekend. However, there has been another delay in things.

In football, weighing up returns is difficult. Milan, ultimately, need to have someone like Leao in the team straight away. However, if that risks the longer-term availability of the star, is it worth it? Well, it seems the Rossoneri think not.

Leao’s delay

An injury against Bari meant that the winger missed the games against Cremonese and Lecce, the first two games of the new Serie A season. But, it has been hoped that he could return for this weekend’s fixture against Bologna.

MilanNews, this afternoon, writes that this is still the aim, very much so. Though there is a caution to this idea.

In fact, despite him training through the international break, he is still not in a group environment, even though it seemed like this would be the case today. The reasoning is simple: ‘his recovery is being managed with the utmost care and caution’ by the Diavolo.

With that said, he should still be ‘at least’ available during that game against Bologna. Whether that is as a starter remains to be seen, but he will not be rushed back for one game in September; there is no point.
