The January mercato could be pivotal to the Scudetto, and AC Milan will want to make some moves, if the bank allows.
Ahead of the mercato re-opening, many are left looking at the past two and thinking what could have been. Large sums of money have been spent, and Milan have improved with very few strikes from either January or the summer.
Of course, there have been a few positives. However, the €70 million spent on Christopher Nkunku and Santiago Gimenez stands out as a ‘what could have been’ area. Nevertheless, there is time to fix things.
Three additions, please
In January, as MilanNews write, there are three positions where the Rossoneri must look to strengthen. The most obvious is a centre forward, and it seems that Gimenez or Nkunku (perhaps both) could depart.
Niclas Fullkrug and Joshua Zirkzee, flames from the summer of 2024, could be looked at. Alternatively, roads to Mauro Icardi and Lorenzo Lucca may open.
Elsewhere, more defensive reinforcements would be appreciated. David Odogu seems likely to leave on loan, and with an already short defence, there is room to add cover. Thiago Silva’s name has been mentioned, but whether he will truly be considered is something in itself.
It would be difficult to get January wrong, but it is not impossible.
