MN: Milan watch €35m ‘go up in smoke’ as Como struggle with Morata and Thiaw

1 week ago 49

Como are very keen on securing the services of Alvaro Morata and Malick Thiaw this summer, but despite AC Milan’s willingness, it has proved more difficult than expected.

Thiaw has ended up on the exit list after what was an inconsistent 2024-25 season, ending up on the bench towards the end. Furthermore, as his residual value on the accounts is quite low, Milan are sensing a capital gain opportunity.

As for Morata, he was sent out on loan to Galatasaray in January but appears keen on cutting the spell short. The only problem is that the Turkish side have an agreement with Milan until at least January 2026, which means it all depends on their stance.

Como and Milan left with nothing

As highlighted by MilanNews, Milan are currently watching €35m go up in smoke. That is the total amount that they would have collected from the sales of Thiaw and Morata, who both have ended up in Como’s sights, as said.

An agreement was reached at €25m for the centre-back, who rejected the move, and €10m has been offered for Morata. However, Galatasaray are yet to budge and won’t let the Spaniard leave early as things stand.

Morata would only have been a small capital gain, but getting him off the accounts permanently would have been a relief (as selling him next year might be difficult). Thiaw, meanwhile, would have generated a big capital gain for the club.
