MN: Okafor likely to be Milan’s striker in friendlies as Allegri awaits reinforcements

AC Milan head coach Massimiliano Allegri will be forced into makeshift solutions given the lack of strikers available, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, Milan depart for Singapore today. It is the first stop on their Asia-Pacific tour over the next ten days, which will see them face off against teams like Arsenal, Liverpool, and Perth Glory in friendly matches.

Allegri’s squad is currently far from complete, with only Samuele Ricci and Luka Modric having arrived so far. Expecting a fully ready squad by July 19th might have been unrealistic, but the coach probably hoped to have completed a few more signings.

Various areas of the pitch will be affected, as Allegri will be forced to play players who aren’t part of the plan or aren’t considered first-choice. The most obvious example is the striker position where he currently has two options, both players on the verge of leaving.

One is Lorenzo Colombo, for whom a new deal is being sought after a year on loan at Empoli. The other is Noah Okafor, also considered surplus to requirements. Santiago Gimenez, the only striker in the squad who is certain to stay, will return from vacation in early August.

The piece suggests that Okafor will get the nod ahead of Colombo, at least at the start.
