Mike Maignan has returned to Milanello after weeks of rumours and worrying speculation about a future away from AC Milan.
As MilanNews report, Maignan returned to full training today after overcoming a slight muscle issue, and he has done so with his usual determined and professional attitude, aware of his central role (for now) within the Rossoneri project.
Captaincy confirmed
As announced by new coach Massimiliano Allegri, Maignan will continue to be Milan’s captain for the upcoming season. This is a clear signal from the club and the coach, who are counting on his leadership not only on the pitch, but also within a dressing room that desperately needs it.
After a somewhat challenging season in terms of fitness and consistency, Maignan has chosen to stay. The talk surrounding Chelsea has died down, and for now the French goalkeeper remains a fixture in the squad.

With a contract renewal still a long way off, Mike will have to focus on the present. Mike is currently contracted to the club until 2026, and discussions regarding a contract extension, with a salary adjustment, were put on hold after a verbal agreement was reached months ago.
With the start of a new era and the confirmation of his central role, it’s not out of the question that the club and the player’s entourage could discuss a new deal again in the coming weeks. Milan intend to retain the cornerstones of the squad, and Maignan is considered one of them.
The first step, meanwhile, has been taken: Maignan is staying and will be the face of Allegri’s new side. The next step could be to tie him to the club long-term.
