Luka Modric was the hero of the night for AC Milan against Pisa, and he was happy to play his part in earning three massive points.
After Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s opener, it looked like being a frustrating night for Milan. A missed penalty from Niclas Füllkrug and a few other chances preceded an equaliser for Pisa, with Loyola netting inside the final quarter.
However, Pisa’s stern resistance was broken by the oldest man on the field: Modric. The Croatian played a lovely pass into the feet of the stumbling Ricci inside the box, and as the Italian went to ground he was able to guide it back to the Ballon d’Or winner, who finished to secure a 2-1 win.
Modric went over and spoke to DAZN just after collecting his Player of the Match award from Lega Serie A. He stopped by to give his thoughts on the game, which were relayed by MilanNews.
At 40 years and 5 months, you kept the title race alive. Are you the best player over 40 ever?
“Thank you (smiles). First of all, we couldn’t afford to make any mistakes today. We knew these points would be crucial for the fight at the top of the table, and we got them.
“In the second half, we relaxed a bit and didn’t pay attention. That’s why they scored. But in the end, we attacked and scored the second goal. We’re happy with the win.”
Did you hear the song they made for you?
“It’s a privilege for me to hear this chant. I can only thank the fans.”
Now is the goal to frighten Inter?
“We have to take it one game at a time. Every match is tough, like tonight, and we have to keep working, improving, and focusing on the next match.”
