Luka Modric has insisted that Christopher Nkunku deserved his first league goals since arriving at AC Milan because of how hard he works.
Milan signed off 2025 in style as they recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday afternoon. It took 45 minutes to break the deadlock, but it was no surprise who got the opening goal with Christian Pulisic in the right place at the right time to fire home.
Then, it was the Nkunku show. The Frenchman won and converted a penalty to get his first ever Serie A goal, and then he slotted in from close range after a Luka Modric shot had been tipped onto the post but rolled along the line.
Modric: Nkunku is ‘top class’
Modric spoke to DAZN just after the final whistle had gone at San Siro and he offered his reflections after a positive afternoon of work. MilanNews relayed his comments to the broadcaster.

“It was really important for us to win today. We dropped important points against Sassuolo, so today it was crucial to win, and we deserved these three points.”
Nkunku finally scored…
“He deserved the goal. He works hard in training. We know that when strikers don’t score, they’re not happy. We hope this goal gives him a lot of confidence because we know what a top-class player he is. We’re here to help him and give him everything he needs. We’re happy for him.”
