In the summer, Luka Modric joined AC Milan, with many unsure of what he would bring. Now, halfway into the season, he has helped the team to the top of Serie A.
When a player like Modric becomes available, most clubs will have a look. So, when the Croatian became an option and with Milan needing experience, it was a move that made sense. Then, when you add the context of his boyhood dreams to play for the club, it makes more sense.
So far, the Croatian has been part of a midfield revolution alongside Adrien Rabiot and he does not look like a 40-year-old veteran but rather someone just hitting their prime. Admittedly, signs of fatigue have begun to appear, though.
Modric’s words
When he joined the club, there were suggestions that he had joined to win trophies, and he could strike at the first time of asking, with the Scudetto becoming an increasingly possible treasure.
Speaking at the Gazzetta Sports Awards – where he accepted the ‘Legend Award – he discussed his time in Italy so far, as MilanNews relays.
“I feel good, I like what I do. I feel good physically and mentally, I’m having fun, and everything is going well. I hope to continue like this. I’m doing a good job with AC Milan, one of my favourite clubs. As a child, I dreamed of playing for this great team.
“Italian football is different from Spanish football, but it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps abroad, people don’t realise how difficult it is. It didn’t surprise me because I’ve always seen it.”

Allegri’s shock…
“Allegri is a great coach, he’s a winner. He surprised me with his personality. I enjoy working with him because of his ability to do so with great champions.”
