After the 2-0 win against Lecce, Luka Modric spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on AC Milan’s performance.
Modric played from start, once again, and he repaid the trust with a very good performance. He dictated the tempo of the game and provided an assist, becoming the oldest midfielder to do so in Serie A since the data was first collected (2004-05).
After the game, Modric was interviewed by Sky Italia (via MilanNews) and he shared his thoughts on the win. He made it clear that Milan need to keep going in this direction, as they simply cannot settle for mediocrity with the red and black shirt.
First win of the season, how does it feel?
“Winning is always a good thing. It’s an important win after our first home defeat. I think we deserved to win today, but we need to keep going. We have a lot to improve on, and I hope this match gives us confidence for the future.”
A month in Milan, how are you feeling?
“I feel good. Everything is perfect. My teammates have welcomed me very well. I feel good, happy. There’s something missing; I still have to find a place to live, but everything is going very well. I’m adapting to the new city but also to Italian football.”
Were you worried after the Cremonese match?
“No. That’s football. Of course, when you lose a game that everyone thinks you’ll win, it’s complicated, but this match showed that Italian football is complicated, you always have to be careful. No worries, because I see a lot of quality here and a lot of things to improve. I think that by knowing each other and winning, we can improve.”
Do you still think so?
“Milan is a big club in world football. And we should think so. I think that, given the quality we have, we all have to aim high, because we are Milan. We can’t settle for mediocrity. I came here to win. This team has important qualities, and we’ll prove it during the season, especially because we’re missing some players right now, namely Rafa (Leao), who is a very important player for us.
“Once we get to know each other better and understand what the coach wants, we’ll demonstrate our qualities and things will get better.”
How’s your Italian going?
“Good. Little by little (laughs).
Max Allegri should have more players at his disposal after the break, including Rafael Leao, and that will hopefully help the Rossoneri a lot. Not to mention that there could still be some reinforcements from the mercato, with Igli Tare planning to make some signings.
