Modric insists Milan will ‘get better’ with time after netting winner: “We fought as a team”

Luka Modric joked about not being reminded of his age after he was the hero of the night for AC Milan against Bologna.

It took Milan an hour to open the scoring in front of their own fans, but it was a moment of real quality. Ruben Loftus-Cheek spearheaded a counter-attack and laid off to Alexis Saelemaekers, whose pull-back was fired in by Modric from the edge of the box.

Modric turned 40 just a few days ago but it was the icing on the cake of what was another performance showing that he can still operate at an elite level. His reaction after scoring the goal and at full-time showed how much it meant to him, too.

‘We fought as a team’

Modric spoke to DAZN after the full-time whistle to give his thoughts on what was a tough but important victory, and one in which he got his dream moment. MilanNews transcribed his comments.

Luka, how do you feel?

“We won, which is the most important thing. Now we’re focusing on the next match.”

At 40 you decided to be the match-winner…

“I hope you don’t remind me of my age next time… I’m kidding. Alexis’ assist was really nice. We fought as a team, and game after game we’ll get better as we get to know each other better and with the return of some players.”
