Mohamed Salah gives thoughts on Alexander Isak after price tag decision

4 days ago 24

Mohamed Salah has suggested that he considers Alexander Isak amongst the Premier League's finest talents, while speculation continues linking the striker with Liverpool.

The Newcastle frontman remains a key target for the Reds as next month's transfer window deadline approaches. The defending champions have already seen a bid rejected by the Magpies.

Isak has handed in a transfer request and continues to train separately from his Newcastle colleagues, having missed their preseason tour. With merely a week remaining before the 2025/26 campaign kicks off, Liverpool's Salah was questioned about his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) price tag. Remarkably, it seems he holds Isak in particularly high regard.

The Egyptian forward said: "First of all I want you guys to put my price down so everybody can have me in the team. I said that... before, I'm telling you in a video. Put my price down and that's it.

"Now I am the highest. No! Put the strikers the highest. Haaland should be the highest. Isak should be the highest. So not a winger has to be the highest."

While Salah evidently supports the potential transfer, Newcastle remains determined to retain Isak for the foreseeable future.

The Magpies have informed their star striker that he will not be permitted to leave this summer, a stance that has clearly frustrated the player.

Giving an update on the player, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: "We've had discussions and it's clear at the moment we can't have him involved with the group.

"I don't know how long that will be for. It's clear I can't involve him with the team at the moment.

"He is training later than the rest of the squad. There have been discussions since the tour. I don't think disciplinary action has happened.

"He is here, so of course he has a future at Newcastle. From our perspective, we would love to have him back with the team, but the situation has to be right for that to happen."

When asked if Isak could feature in his side's Premier League opener against Aston Villa, Howe responded: "I want Alex to be playing today. I want him training tomorrow.

"We would love the player to be with us, let me make that absolutely clear.

"There is no part of me that does not want that outcome. But I don't see the current situation changing before Aston Villa."
