Mohamed Salah’s sister, Rabab, has confirmed the sad passing of their grandfather.

Reports emerged from Egypt on Monday claiming, Ahmed Abdel Aziz Al Bambi, Salah’s grandfather, had passed away, with arrangements for funeral underway. That is to be held in Nagrig, Salah’s hometown.

In a post on social media, Rebab Salah confirmed the news: “We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return,” she wrote on Facebook. “My dear and affectionate grandfather passed away. May Allah have mercy on him, forgive him, and make him dwell in heaven.”

At this stage, it remains unclear whether Salah will travel to Egypt for the funeral arrangements. The winger played in Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

The Reds are also in action on Wednesday and Saturday this week, against Sunderland and Brighton & Hove Albion, respectively.

Salah has a close bond with his family and regularly shares photos of his relatives on social media. He has not been active on any online platforms since the City defeat.

Ibrahima Konate was granted nearly two weeks’ compassionate leave recently following the passing of his father in France. He missed three matches as a result and returned ahead of last week’s win over Newcastle United.

The Liverpool forward has started the Reds’ last five games since returning from the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 33-year-old, who joined Liverpool in 2017, has scored 251 goals for the club in 426 appearances.

Salah has been linked with a summer move to Saudi Arabia, with officials from the Middle Eastern country publicly acknowledging their previous interest in signing the Egyptian star.
