Moises Caicedo has told his Chelsea team-mates to swiftly move on from their Brentford disappointment, with Bayern Munich lying in wait. The Blues were held to a 2-2 draw by their west London rivals on Saturday.
Chelsea looked to be on the way to three points after Cole Palmer and Caicedo had scored to turn the game on its head following Kevin Schade’s opener. But ex-Liverpool man Fabio Carvalho sealed a share of the points in stoppage time.
Speaking about the result, Caicedo has urged his team-mates to put the disappointment out of their minds and instead focus on their upcoming Champions League opener against German side Bayern Munich.
Caicedo said: “We are not happy because we didn’t win, but we are just thinking about Wednesday. For sure we are disappointed with the result, but now we have another game on Wednesday and we focus on that now. Everybody is going to be ready.”
The draw against Brentford would have added frustration for Caicedo given he had seemingly won the game.
The strike against the Bees represented his second goal of the season for the Blues – already his joint-most productive campaign since joining Chelsea from Brighton in 2023.
Speaking about his strike, Caicedo said: “I knew what I was going to do. I was just thinking about shooting on goal. I did it and it was a great goal. I am going to keep going to help the team.
“Brentford play their football, putting the ball in the box, so it’s difficult. We tried to do our best but sometimes that happens. The reaction of the team was good – we needed to be patient and that’s why we could come back into the game.”
The draw with Brentford leaves Chelsea sitting fifth in the Premier League having won two and drawn two of their opening four league games.
However, some have suggested that Enzo Maresca’s side were distracted by their upcoming Champions League opener.
Reacting to that claim, the Chelsea boss said: "No, no, no, no, absolutely [not]. Joao Pedro, before the game, asked me that he was not fit 100 percent, better [that he] doesn't play.
“And so if I was thinking about Bayern Munich, Joao was on the bench. But Joao played because the focus was about tonight. But for sure, when you have so many games, you have to plan a different option.
"For instance, Reece James played two games with the international team. So play tonight and thinking on Wednesday. So it's not, our focus was about tonight.
“And the reason why is because if this season we play Champions League, it's because we did well in the Premier League. And if we want to play again Champions League next season, we need to do well in the Premier League."
