Morata strongly criticises Galatasaray: “Unacceptable and contrary to the values of fairness”

Alvaro Morata has thanked the Galatasaray fans for their support, but took a jab at the club’s management on his way out.

After weeks of speculation about whether he would be allowed to join his compatriot Cesc Fabregas at Como, the news was confirmed yesterday stating that his loan spell with Galatasaray had officially been terminated.

The club confirmed that Milan paid a €5m early termination fee, given that the loan was expected to last until the end of the 2026 winter transfer window. With the Rossoneri having paid that fee, it is expected that Como will now pay a bit more to sign the 32-year-old.

In a post on his Instagram profile, Morata provided a reflections on his six months in Turkey and hinted that Galatasaray in fact tried to go back on their word.

“Dear Gala fans and the people of Turkey,

“I want to sincerely thank you for the affection, warmth, and support you have shown me. You made me feel welcome from the very first day, and your support has been among the most extraordinary I have ever experienced in my career.

“Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about my experience with the club. There were moments when the given word and the respect for fundamental values were not upheld.

“Until the very end, the commitments made were not honoured, to the point where I was left with no choice but to forgo part of my salary and other contractual rights I had already earned through my work (the figure published is not accurate).

“For me, in life and in work, there are principles that should never be broken, such as respect for each person’s rights. Failing to recognise and compensate what has been earned is, to me, unacceptable and contrary to the values of fairness and professionalism I believe in.

“I know these matters are often not spoken about openly, but I believe it is right to give the fans the real explanation of what happened. You and the city of Istanbul will always remain in my heart, and I wish you the very best, today and in the future.

“A special thank you also goes to the coach and his fantastic staff — I am certain you will continue writing the history of Galatasaray. My heartfelt thanks to all my teammates for the moments we shared, and to all the people working at the training facilities.

“With affection, Álvaro.”
