Davide Bartesaghi has found himself as a starter at AC Milan despite being just 19 years of age, and some background on his renewal has emerged.

While Milan’s best players at the start of the season are undoubtedly the most experienced, one youngster stands out: Bartesaghi. The left wing-back, who came through the youth system, has fought off competition from summer signing Pervis Estupinan to become the established starter.

A gesture of faith

Matteo Moretto spoke about his latest contract renewal, which came about despite many uncertainties regarding what the club had planned for him. His words are from a video on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian YouTube channel.

“This summer, Bartesaghi decided to extend his contract with AC Milan until 2030 at €600,000 per season. [He did this] Without the certainty of playing for the first team. He decided to do so despite the second team being relegated to Serie D,” he said.

A few months later, the young defender became a starter for his boyhood club Milan, and Massimiliano Allegri currently prefers him to Estupiñan, who arrived in the summer for nearly €20m from Brighton and is much more experienced.

The Ecuadorian’s injury also contributed to his integration, but Estupinan didn’t even come on in the derby, all while Bartesaghi put in one of his best defensive performances so far.
