AC Milan are getting closer to agreeing a contract extension with one of the stars of the season so far, Matteo Moretto has claimed.
Milan’s defensive improvement is there for all to see. Twelve months ago, after 10 games, the Rossoneri had conceded 13 goals and only kept a clean sheet twice. In 2025-26 they’ve conceded seven, four of which came at San Siro against newly promoted sides Cremonese and Pisa.
Part of the reason for this is down to Tomori’s rejuvenation. The Englishman was a key player in the Scudetto-winning season of 2021-22, but last season – under both Fonseca and Conceiçao – he was up and down in terms of form.
Massimiliano Allegri seems to have made him a fixed pillar of his three-man defence though, and he is benefitting from this faith. The right-sided centre-back role in the trio appears to very much suit his attributes, and he has started eight of 10 league games thus far.
Now, there is talk of an extension being on the cards. Moretto spoke in a video on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel about various topics related to possible transfer business, but he also touched on a renewal that Milan are close to completing.
“I told you about a possible contract extension for Tomori. His contract expires in 2027, and negotiations for his renewal are progressing well and quickly. There’s great optimism. Milan expect to close the deal by Christmas, as they do for the renewals of other players,” he said.
