Matteo Moretto has revealed that AC Milan were giving serious thought to changing goalkeepers in the summer.
Rewinding to the beginning of June, Mike Maignan’s future seemed to be in blue rather than in red and black. Chelsea made an offer to try and land the goalkeeper before the Club World Cup, but in the end no agreement was reached between the clubs.
Maignan ended up remaining and was made the club captain by Massimiliano Allegri, who was determined to keep hold of the Frenchman. Yet, a crossroads is imminent: his contract expires at the end of the season, and what filters regarding a renewal is not positive news.
Tare’s consideration
Matteo Moretto spoke during a video which was published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel. In addition to confirming that Milan were keen on Marcus Rashford, he lifted the lid on the thoughts Igli Tare had about a change between the sticks.

“Milinkovic-Savic was strongly desired by Conte, but Milan also considered him in the summer. Tare has a great relationship with his agent and considered him when Marignan seemed close to joining Chelsea in the summer,” Moretto said (via PianetaMilan).
The Serbian ended up joining the champions Napoli, and he made his first start in the last round after Alex Meret got the nod in the first two games.
