AC Milan did not consider Rafael Leao to be unsellable during the summer window, and even seemed to set a price tag.
The big news concerning Leao at the moment is that he should make his return to the field on Sunday night in the big game against Napoli at San Siro. He has been out for over 40 days with a troublesome calf issue, and is ready to come off the bench.
It is a big boost for Milan and for Massimiliano Allegri, who has seemed keen since day one to try and build the attack around the Portuguese forward. He is expected to be the leader of the line in the 3-5-2 system, with his partner to be determined.
Not unsellable
Matteo Moretto has provided some insight on Leao and not only regarding his condition but also related to the summer window and the rumours about some interest from abroad. PianetaMilan relayed his comments.
“He’s been out for several weeks with a calf problem that didn’t seem serious at first. Then, also because he was feeling pain, we decided to take it easy.

“The Napoli match is coming up, and Leao should be called up, even though Milan don’t want to risk him. Physically, he’s coming back, even if he’s not 100% yet.
“Milan didn’t call him unsellable in the summer because if a suitable offer were to arrive, no one is unsellable. If €80-90m had arrived, Milan would have sat down to talk.
“In the summer, there were concrete enquiries from Bayern Munich without any concrete offers, and no other team submitted a written offer. Milan still tried to keep him, and Leao is happy to stay.
“His contract expires in 2028, he’s currently Milan’s flagship player, and the club expects the best from him.”
