Moretto: Milan ‘almost certain’ to finally seal Origi contract termination in January

Matteo Moretto believes that the chances of Divock Origi terminating his AC Milan contract in the coming days are slim.

Over the past few weeks, there has been frequent talk about Milan and Origi being in negotiations over terminating his contract, which is in its final year. It has not been a good spell in the Belgian’s career, given he has spent most of it banished.

The problem for Milan is that they have an ‘unusable’ asset (in the sense that Origi will not play for the club again) that they are paying €4m net per year to. Even with the Growth Decree tax scheme, that means over €5.2m gross.

Origi issue delayed again

Matteo Moretto spoke in a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel and he gave an update on the future of Origi, whose deal expires next June. His comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Divock Origi Milan

“There has been a lot of talk about the possible termination of Divock Origi. I told you a few weeks ago that I wasn’t aware of the Belgian being in advanced negotiations with Milan to terminate his contract and I can confirm this now,” he said.

“It’s highly unlikely that Origi will terminate his contract in the coming weeks, while it’s almost certain that the parties will part ways during the month of January. Origi’s adventure at Milan should therefore end in a few months; it won’t be immediate, but I expect it to all be concluded in January.”
